These can be unlocked by holding down the brake pedal in the car select screen Three tracks from championship are available for selection, as well as 6 official WRC cars plus 2 hidden cars. The rally takes place across three stages, Tropical, Canyon and Alpine, and you need to complete two laps of each by reaching each checkpoint within the time limit. The single player Championship mode returns to the classic model of Sega Rally racing, with players attempting to beat the clock, the track and 21 other racers to win the rally. The game was later ported to consoles as Sega Rally Online Arcade in 2011. Sega Rally 3 has three brand new tracks, updated official WRC '08 rally cars, improved graphics and frame rate, as well as a remake of the Desert '95 track from the original Sega Rally. The game was developed simultaneously alongside the 2007 release Sega Rally Revo for the Xbox 360 & Playstation 3. However, the Dreamcast version suffered from an unstable frame rate and wasn't as successful as its predecessor. Sega Rally Championship 2 was released on the Model 3 board and was ported to Dreamcast in November 1998, making it one of the first Japanese Dreamcast games available. Good players could also unlock an extra car: the Lancia Stratos. The biggest difference between the original and its home versions is the option to drive three laps on each of the four implemented tracks instead of only one lap. A Windows port using on DirectX followed about one year later. Exceptions included non-transparent windows since the Saturn could not generate transparencies in 3D graphics, draw distance shorter than in the arcade game, and lower resolution. It ran in smooth 30 frames per second (25 fps on European PAL systems) and looked very much like the arcade original. This port was of excellent quality and looked much better than PlayStation racing games of the same era.
